The Swan River actually has some awesome fishing at times … not that many people believe me when I tell them that.
Over the last few years I’ve really learned to love the Swan and it’s the perfect place to learn to fish if you don’t have a boat, or if you’re just not confident enough yet to get your vessel out into the ocean.
You can target bream, flathead, herring, mulloway, tailor and even tarwhine but the absolute key is learning how NOT to target blowfish.
And that’s the basis of our river fishing lessons. It all starts from learning to cast well and getting your bait or lure in the right place. Almost everyone I see casting has a flaw in their technique that I reckon I could fix in less than 5 minutes. I’m sure most golf pros think the same and any sport becomes a whole lot easier once you get the basics right.
Next comes choosing the right fish to target. I wrote a whole book on this subject and could have written more about making sure you know what fish live in the area you’re fishing. You can benefit a great deal from watching an expert target a specific fish, thinking through scenarios of where they might be lurking and then working out a plan for success. It’s a very satisfying feeling.
River fishing lessons are also great for the kids. We can wander the banks for flathead or set up on a jetty for bream. Baits and lures are both covered and we can certainly teach you how to get started with bream on lures if you’re having no success. That isn’t easy let me tell you!
We can also target monster 40cm plus bream in a specific lesson. Click here to learn about that.
